A Rodeo of Balloon Shapes by tmulcahy A Rodeo of Balloon Shapes by tmulcahy
This entry is for the #PremiumMembers Show us your home! contest.

Every year Albuquerque becomes home to many hundreds of balloons from around the world. I love the mountains, the Rio Grande, the open spaces, the people, the chile, and the weather, but the Balloon Fiesta usually manages to incorporate all of it. This shot includes not only some Special Shape balloons that manage to jump across cultural boundaries, but also one of the best things about living here: RIDING IN ONE. I took this shot from another balloon as we ascended over the field. The experience is out of this world, but even more special, because I worked for it. I was on a chase crew for a balloon, helping to unfold it, get it ready for launch, follow it, and then pack it all up again. I've been up twice, flying higher then the mountains, flying low over the Rio Grande, and flying over other balloons, people, houses and farmland. It is an experience not entirely unique to Albuquerque, but one that makes living here all the more fun and interesting.

I love this! Hot air balloons are so amazing! Every summer I visit my grandparents in Battle Creek, MI where they have their Field of Flight Balloon Festival. I never get tired of waking up to the sound of a balloon firing up over the house :D I've always dreamed of going up in one :)

I feel the same way. I live near the river, and I hear balloons going over my house all year around because they like to "splash and dash" in the Rio Grande, so they are always passing by on their way to the river.

That's so cool! There are never any here in Panama City where I live :( It's a major bummer

Too bad. That's probably because of the hurricanes and tropical storms, yes? :-)
Anyway, I was in that area once, Destin, I think. I stayed with some others in a rented beach house, but as I was driving in, the radio was warning people to get out! Stayed anyway, but a fallen tree just missed my rental car overnight. In the morning there was tar all over those nice white beaches, and we all kept getting it on our feet and flip flops. I remember that we all stayed indoors during the storm (it was during OJ Simpson's trial, which it what we ended up watching, besides Beavis & Butthead). The water had moved up close to the house, but I don't think we were in much danger, that time.

It very well could be because of the weather. Destin is about an hour and a half west of Panama City :) Oh, wow, I don't remember when that was. That's good you weren't in danger. :)
I visited Albuquerque this past summer with my friend and her two kids! We walked around Old Town which was really cool :) This is one of the many pics I took while I was there :)
I also have several of my balloon pics from the Battle Creek festival a couple years ago :) You can't have a hot air balloon festival in Cereal City without Tony the Tiger :D
The Portkey balloon was one I got to help bag up which was really neat and the U of M balloon was one we got to chase and help launch :) It was so cool! :D

You're very welcome. Look around my shots; there are folders for shots of balloons in 2007, 08, 09, and 2010.
